On Sunday, Oct. 3, in Big East women's soccer action, the Villanova University women's soccer team traveled to Notre Dame, Ind., and was handed its first conference loss of the season, 4-0, to the No. 6 nationally ranked Fighting Irish. With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 10-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the Big East.
Notre Dame got a pair of goals from Jenny Heft for the win over Villanova in battle of unbeaten teams in the Big East Conference Mid-Atlantic division. Heft scored the game-winning goal in the 11th minute and again in the 51st minute to lead the Irish, who improve to 8-2-0 and 4-0-0 in Mid-Atlantic division games with the win.
Irish goalkeepers LaKeysia Beene and Elizabeth Wagner combined to record Notre Dame's third consecutive shutout. Besides Heft's two goals, Meotis Erikson and Kara Brown added one goal apiece to close out a 4-0 win for the Irish.
In goal for Villanova, sophomore Janel Schillig saved nine shots in the loss, giving her 105 for the season. Schillig gained her fifth shutout on Friday against Wisconsin-Milwaukee, in the Wildcats' first game of their mid-west road trip.
Villanova will get back into action on Thursday, Oct. 7, traveling to Georgetown University to face the Hoyas at 4:00 p.m.
