Villanova Career: Competed for the Wildcats from 2018-21 and primarily swam in the distance freestyle events … Four-time BIG EAST scorer during his career, including once each in the 200 yard freestyle, the 500 yard freestyle, the 1650 yard freestyle and the 200 yard breaststroke … Part of a runner-up team finish at the BIG EAST Championships his senior year … Three-time selection to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and a five-time member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll during his career.
2020-21: Scored in both the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle at the BIG EAST Championships … His time of 4:44.81 in the final of the 500 free established a new personal best … Came in 16
th in the preliminaries of the 500 free in 4:46.34 to reach the consolation final and placed 16
th overall after his PR in the final … Tallied a 15
th place finish in both the preliminaries and the final of the 200 free … Recorded a time of 1:45.58 in the prelims and lowered it to 1:44.85 in the final … Swam in the preliminary heats of the 100 yard freestyle on the final day of the conference meet and posted a time of 48.61 … Opened the season in a home dual meet against Drexel where tallied a fifth place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.94 to go along with a seventh place finish with a time of 52.03 in the 100 free … Recorded times of 23.89 in the 50 free, 1:53.47 in the 200 free and 2:26.37 in the 200 yard breaststroke against Seton Hall … Registered a sixth place finish in the 50 free (23.12) against Loyola (Md.) and came in eighth in the 500 free (5:08.49) … Also anchored the Wildcats “B” lineup in the 400 yard freestyle relay to a fourth place finish with a time of 3:20.25 against Loyola (Md.).
2019-20: Competed in three individual events at the BIG EAST Championships and posted season-best times in each of his three races … Recorded a time of 1:01.12 in the preliminaries of the 100 yard breaststroke and touched the wall in 2:13.51 in the heats of the 200 yard breaststroke … Had a mark of 4:48.28 in the preliminary round of the 500 yard freestyle … Swam in time trials for the 50 yard, 100 yard and 200 yard freestyle … During the year his best times were 48.67 in the 100 free at the WVU Invitational, 1:45.34 in the 200 free in his time trial at the BIG EAST meet and 22.44 in the 50 free time trial … Swam legs of the 200 yard medley relay six times throughout the season, as well as the 200 yard freestyle relay on five occasions and the 400 yard freestyle relay twice … Anchored the 200 free relay to a third place finish at Penn and led off for the team which placed third at Penn State.
2018-19: Scored in the 100 yard breaststroke and the 1650 yard freestyle at the BIG EAST Championships in his first collegiate season … Tallied a 12
th place finish in the 100 breast and came in 15
th in the 1650 free … Also swam in the preliminary heats of the 500 yard freestyle and recorded a season-best time of 4:54.97 … Several of his top times during the year came in the Bruno Invitational at Brown, where he recorded marks of 49.03 in the 100 yard freestyle, 1:46.66 in the 200 yard freestyle, 17:04.62 in the 1650 free and 1:00.75 in the 100 breast … Also had times of 23.53 in the 50 yard freestyle against Georgetown and 10:18.41 in the 1000 yard freestyle versus Penn State … Made his collegiate debut by competing in the 500 free and the 1000 free against West Virginia … Came in third in the 1000 free and fourth in the 500 free against Penn State, as well as fourth in the 500 free versus Providence.
Cherry Creek High School: Earned a total of eight varsity letters during his scholastic career, including four in swimming, three in cross country and one in track & field … Earned academic all-state honors in all three sports … Winner of the Grier Laughlin Memorial Scholarship as a senior … High school teammate of fellow Villanova senior JJ Strain.
Personal: Oldest of three children and the only son of Edward and Megan Hultgren … Has two younger sisters, Kristin and Kyra … Father was a college swimmer at Loyola (Md.) … Hobbies include hiking, camping and fishing … Chose to attend Villanova for its outstanding academic programs and strong athletics reputation … Civil Engineering major with a Business minor and is enrolled in the Honors program.
