Matthew Mitchell

Matthew Mitchell serves as an Assistant Director of Sports Medicine at Villanova University, a position he has held since 2026. In addition to providing healthcare services for the Men's Soccer and Men's Swimming & Diving programs, he oversees administrative operations for the Sports Medicine department, including supervision of athletic training personnel, coordination of clinical education outreach initiatives, management of the University's summer athletic camps, and support of daily sports medicine operations. Mitchell was promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer in 2022 after serving seven years as an Assistant Athletic Trainer within the program.
 
Prior to joining Villanova, Mitchell served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Cincinnati from 2011 to 2015. He also completed a graduate assistantship at Syracuse University, where he provided care and support for the Football, Men's Basketball, Men's Soccer, and Men's Lacrosse programs.
 
Mitchell earned a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Pittsburgh in 2009 and a Master of Science in Exercise Science from Syracuse University in 2011. His professional interests include personnel development, departmental operations and procedures, talent recruitment and hiring, and the evaluation and management of hamstring injuries. He holds specialized certifications in Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training, and Myofascial Decompression.
 
A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mitchell resides in the West Oak Lane neighborhood with his wife, Rita, and their son, Miles.
