GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Junior Kareem Archer (Jr., Plainfield, N.J.), ran an NCAA provisional time in the 400m intermediate hurdles to highlight the Wildcats performances at the 54th Coca Cola Florida Relays. The Florida Relays were held at the University of Florida, in Gainesville, Fla.
Archer qualified provisionally for the NCAA Outdoor Championships with an outstanding time of 50.42 in the 400m intermediate hurdles, earning him a fourth-place finish in the event.
Sophomore Jermaine Deans (So., Manchester, Jamaica) recorded an IC4A qualifying mark to finish fourth in the triple jump with an leap of 49-4 1/2, while Maulan Byron (Fr., Saint Vincent's, West Indies) ran 48.96 in the 400m. In addition, the men's distance medley relay team of Rich Morris (So., Jackson, N.J.), David Hisler (So.,West Chester, Pa.), Gregory Young (Fr., Wilmington, Mass.) and Brian Lucas (Sr., Scarborought, Ontario) placed fifth in 10:10.64.
The Villanova women's distance medley relay team was victorious as Tamieka Grizzle (Fr., Bronx, N.Y.), Kesha Walley (Sr., Yardon, Pa.), Jurga Marcinkevicuite (So., Valnius, Lithuania) and Kristine Jost (So., Baltimore, Md.) teamed up to run 11:20.88. Also turning in a first-place finish for the Wildcats was Melanie Sklepko (Sr., Youngstown, Ohio) in the collegiate 400m IH. Sklepko's time of 1:00.12 qualifies her for the ECAC Outdoor Championships.
For the women's squad, Krestena Sullivan (Sr., Kitchener, Ontario), Kristine Schrier (Sr., Houston, Texas) Lony'e Johnson (Fr., Wilmington, Del.) and Katie Blackett (So., Flagstaff, Ariz.) also recorded top-10 finishes. Sullivan placed third in the 3000m in 10:05.22 to qualify of the ECAC Championships. Kristine Schrier was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 5-3, Johnson finished seventh in the 800m in 2:18.40, while Blackett finished 10th in the triple jump in 37-10.
The Wildcats will be competing on April 4-5 at the Miami Invitational and on April 6 at the University of Pennsylvania.
