ORLANDO, Fla. – The Villanova women's tennis team returns to action this week for a three-match slate in Orlando, beginning with a Tuesday doubleheader against NC A&T State and Saginaw Valley State before closing out the trip on Thursday against St. Bonaventure.
Villanova enters the week refreshed after an off week and riding momentum from a dominant 4-0 sweep over Colgate on February 21. The Wildcats secured the doubles point behind victories from the tandems of Olivia Corcoran/Maddie Hills and Emi Callahan/Maggie Gehrig. In singles play, Corcoran, Gehrig, and Jenna Stevens each earned straight-set wins to complete the sweep. The victory marked Villanova's fifth of the season and evened its record at 5-5.
NC A&T State brings a 2-1 record into Tuesday's matchup. The Aggies opened the year with a 7-0 win over Livingstone College and most recently earned a 6-1 victory against Western Carolina. Their lone setback came on the road against Elon, 7-0.
Saginaw Valley State enters the week at 3-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Cardinals opened their season with a 5-2 win over Hope and followed with a sweep of Calvin. After dropping three straight matches to Hillsdale, Northwood, and No. 22 Wayne State, Saginaw Valley responded with a 7-0 sweep of Seton Hill in its most recent outing.
St. Bonaventure rounds out the week's competition. The Bonnies are 1-10 this spring, with their lone win coming in a 6-1 victory over Binghamton last Friday. St. Bonaventure has faced a challenging schedule that includes matchups against Navy, Buffalo, Penn State, Dayton, and Army.
