Women's Tennis Begins Spring Season Against Penn State And Penn

'Cats Take On Nittany Lions Sunday Then Quakers Monday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Villanova women's tennis team begins its spring championship push this weekend with a road trip to University Park, Pa., opening the season against Penn State on Sunday, January 18, at 12 p.m. at the Indoor Tennis Center. The Wildcats will then continue their trip with a matchup against Penn on Monday, January 19.

Villanova enters the spring slate following a strong fall season highlighted by senior Maggie Gehrig and Miriam Gondorova. The Wildcats competed in three fall invitationals, including impressive deep runs at the Navy Blue and Gold Invitational.

The Wildcats and Nittany Lions opened the 2025 spring season against one another, with Penn State earning a 7-0 victory in University Park. Despite the early setback, Villanova finished the 2025 campaign with a 12-12 overall record and a 4-1 mark in BIG EAST play. That performance propelled the Wildcats to the BIG EAST Championship, where their postseason run ended with a 4-0 loss to Xavier.

Penn State concluded the 2025 season with a 14-10 overall record and a 5-8 mark in Big Ten play. The Nittany Lions' season came to an end in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament with a 4-0 loss to Wisconsin. Now entering her seventh season, head coach Alexandra McIntyre leads Penn State after guiding the program to its best season a year ago.

Penn finished the 2025 season with a 12-9 overall record and a 5-2 mark in Ivy League competition. The Quakers defeated Villanova 7-0 on the Wildcats' home courts last season, and Monday's matchup will mark the fourth consecutive season the two programs have faced one another.
