CAYCE, S.C. - Villanova women's tennis wrapped up their season with a tough loss in the BIG EAST Championship match to five time champions Xavier, falling 4-0.
The Musketeers were able to grab wins on courts two and three to take the doubles point.
Sophia Edwards and
Miriam Gondorova were tied 4-4 before their game was abandoned. No.2 took down pair
Olivia Corcoran and
Jenna Stevens 4-6, and No.3 won 6-2 over
Maggie Gehrig and
Lauren Monti.
The Musketeers grab wins on Court 2 and 4 to put them in a quick led of 0-3. Gehrig played in the three spot and fought hard before falling to Rexroat in the third set, 3-6,6-0,2-6 to lock in Xavier's fifth championship in a row.
The Wildcats went into the BIG EAST Tournament as a #4 seed, but managed to rally and finish 2nd,  Taking down #5 seed DePaul and #1 seed UConn 4-3 each. This was the first time in program history that Villanova women's tennis made it into the Championship match.
