Wildcats to Meet Holy Family Tuesday

Tigers and 'Cats to meet for the first time at Higgins Soccer Complex

VILLANOVA, Pa. – A mid-week non-conference clash will serve as the regular season home finale for the Villanova Wildcats on Tuesday afternoon. Holy Family will make the short trip from Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia to Lancaster Avenue for a match this is set to get underway at 2:05 p.m.

The Wildcats have dropped their last two decisions, at Georgetown (3-0) and a 3-1 verdict on Saturday to St. John's at the Higgins Soccer Complex. Those results eliminated Villanova from the four-team BIG EAST Tournament that takes place next week in Boyd, Md.

But for a young team still gaining experience, there is still much to play for this week.

First off, the Wildcats (5-6-5 overall) can post a winning record in a season for the first time since 2021 (12-8-1), when they earned an NCAA Tournament bid and picked up the program's first ever NCAA Tournament win by downing Vermont 1-0.

This is the first of two games for Villanova this week. The 'Cats conclude the BIG EAST regular season Friday evening at Marquette at 7 p.m. eastern. Earning wins in both would push Nova back above .500.

Holy Family carried a 5-6-3 overall record into a match Monday afternoon against West Chester. The Tigers downed Caldwell 6-2 on Saturday at Tiger Field. Holy Family is slated to complete its season Thursday at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J.

Saturday's outcome also included a red card assessed to Villanova head coach Mark Fetrow, which brings with it a one-game suspension in the team's next outing. Associate Head Coach Alex Balog will lead Villanova into this contest.

ESPN+ will carry the live stream of Tuesday's clash beginning at 2 p.m. Mike Samsel and Nick Mantegna will be on site to provide the play-by-play and analysis as this one unfolds.
