CORAL GABLES, Fla.—The final day of the Hurricane Alumni Invitational was a big one for Villanova which got top performances from every part of its roster. Senior high jumper
Roschell Clayton (Montego Bay, Jamaica) made her outdoor season debut and tied for sixth place on the national performance list with a height of 1.85 meters, while the duo of sophomore
Micah Trusty (Philadelphia, Pa.) and fifth year
Madison Martinez (Gahanna, Ohio) posted the top two times in the BIG EAST this season in the 800 meters.
Women's High Jump
Clayton recorded five successful attempts in her competition since a sixth place finish at the indoor NCAA Championships last month. She cleared 1.85 meters on her second attempt on Saturday to tie for sixth place on the national performance list this season. Clayton is the BIG EAST leader on the year and ranks second on the Wildcats all-time outdoor performance list.
First year collegian
Malaika Cunningham (St. Andrew, Jamaica) matched her personal best from the indoor season with a successful clearance at 1.77 meters. She started the day with four straight successful jumps, beginning at 1.62 meters and increasing the bar every five centimeters from there. Clayton is tied for 10
th on the East region performance list and ranks second in the BIG EAST behind Clayton.
Women's 800 Meters
Trusty lowered her lifetime PR in the 800 meters to 2:04.90 while finishing third in a field of 31 runners. She was a qualifier for the national quarterfinal round of the 800 meters last season and ranks 15
th on this year's East region performance list in addition to sitting atop the BIG EAST lead for the season. Trusty is just ahead of her own teammate, as Martinez posted a time of 2:05.11 in Saturday's race to rank second in the conference and 16
th in the East.
Women's Shot Put
Two of the biggest performances of the day were delivered by fifth year collegians
Jordan Williams (Fresno, Calif.) and
Adria Retter (Quakertown, Pa.) in the shot put. Williams became the sixth athlete in school history to surpass 14 meters and recorded a lifetime PR of 14.02 meters on her fifth throw of the day. The mark is good for third in the BIG EAST this season and sixth on the all-time Villanova performance list (fifth outdoors). She was the runner-up out of 17 competitors in Saturday's competition.
Retter came in fourth in the shot put with a mark of 13.85 meters. She was passed on the Wildcats top-10 list by Williams but continues to rank seventh overall in school history and sixth on Villanova's outdoor performance list. On the first day in Miami on Friday afternoon Retter and Williams had each produced strong performances in the discus and the hammer, respectively.
Women's 100 Meter Hurdles
Fifth year runner
Jane Livingston (Lancaster, Pa.) and first year collegian
Ajanae Thompson (Rahway, N.J.) recorded season best times in the hurdles on Saturday. They rank third and fourth on the BIG EAST performance list for the season coming out of the weekend, with Livingston posting a time of 13.58 in Miami and Thompson following her with a lifetime best mark of 13.84. The pair finished third and sixth out of 23 competitors in the hurdles, then later in the afternoon they recorded times of 25.16 and 25.20 in the 200 meters.
