ORLANDO, Fla.—The trio of
Adria Retter (Quakertown, Pa.),
Alex Payne (Silverdale, Washington) and
Jordan Williams (Fresno, Calif.) instantly moved onto the all-time Villanova performance list in women's hammer as the Wildcats began their outdoor season on Friday afternoon. Five events made up the team's schedule on the first day of the Knights Invite at the UCF Track and Field Complex.
After they each had successful indoor seasons and impacted the Villanova top-10 lists in the weight throw and the shot put, the Wildcats three graduate student throwers started off the outdoor slate in a big way. Retter threw for 51.89 meters in the hammer, followed by a mark of 51.27 meters from Payne and a throw of 44.95 meters from Williams. Those performances rank them fourth, sixth, and ninth in school history in the event with virtually the entire outdoor season still to come.
One other field event was on Friday's schedule as senior
Teresa Rotolo (Warren, N.J.) posted a mark of 29.58 meters in the javelin. Shot put competition, which was also slated for Friday, was postponed.
In the track events, first-year collegian
Olivia Allen (Kingwood, Texas) opened up in the 400 meter hurdles and recorded a time of 1:01.52 to place fifth out of 35 competitors. Fellow first-year sprinter
Ajanae Thompson (Rahway, N.J.) registered a personal best time of 25.04 in the 200 meters, followed by sophomore
Myonica Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill.) with a time of 25.32.
Villanova will be back in action at UCF on Saturday and will also compete locally in the Penn Challenge at Franklin Field.
