Wildcats to Celebrate Seniors Tuesday

Villanova hosts Army West Point at 3 p.m.

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova will conclude the regular season portion of its home schedule Tuesday afternoon at the Higgins Soccer Complex when it hosts Army West Point (3-7-3 overall, 1-3-3 Patriot League) at 3 p.m. The match will be live streamed via the Nova Nation All-Access Pass at Flo Sports via villanova.com.

The Wildcats (1-7-4 overall, 1-4-2 BIG EAST) will celebrate "Senior Day", honoring a group of eight student-athletes in a ceremony prior to kickoff, beginning at approximately 2:45 p.m.

The group includes:

Atlanta, Ga., native Akinjide Awujo. His goal in the 76th minute at Creighton in the 2021 BIG EAST Tournament helped ignite a rally that propelled Villanova into the NCAA Tournament. In 45 career games, he has six goals and four assists. Awujo has yet to see action in 2023 after suffering a knee injury in a preseason scrimmage.

Senior Jack Bonas shares captain duties with graduate student Gray Ricca. The center back has started 50 career games at Villanova, including seven this season before having his season interrupted by injury. This native of Newtown, Pennsylvania sent the throw-in that led to the Awujo goal in the pivotal 2021 match at Creighton.

Anthony Cousins Jr. joined the program in 2021 as a transfer from Florida International and made an immediate impact as an outside back. His goal in the 2021 regular season finale in the 86th minute lifted Villanova past Seton Hall 1-0, securing a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament. He has appeared in 43 career games at Nova, accumulating nine points.

Dominic Cyriacks is a four-year starter in the midfield for the Wildcats who has made his mark as a playmaker and distributor. This native of Hamburg, Germany has started all 59 games he has appeared in at Villanova. In that time he has scored a pair of goals to go with eight assists, including two this season.

Senior Jorge Garcia is a native of Lawrenceville, Ga., who has made his mark in the Villanova midfield over the past four seasons. He has appeared in 55 career games, with 32 starting assignments. This season he scored a goal against Butler and had the key assist in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Xavier.

Branden Johns is another dynamic member of the Villanova Class of 2024. Injuries limited his contributions early in his career, but he has started 13 games for Nova in 2023. This forward scored three goals in two games earlier this season, including a pair in his home state of Maryland.

Luke Pompliano has been sidelined by injury thus far in 2023. However, his earlier contributions were significant over 38 career games. His 2021 goal at Creighton proved to be the game-winner, as the Wildcats knocked off the Bluejays 2-1 to effectively clinch the program's second NCAA Tournament appearance.

Michael Sheridan joined the Wildcats as a transfer from Saint Joseph's College. He helped the Wildcats earn a 2-2 draw with Western Michigan earlier this season, making seven saves that day. He owns an 0.91 career goals against average.

"This group has represented Villanova University with class and made some very important contributions to our program," stated head coach Tom Carlin.

Following this contest, the Wildcats will have two regular season games remaining,  Saturday at DePaul (2 p.m.) and next Monday (Oct. 30) at UIC. Villanova remains alive for the eighth and final playoff slot in the BIG EAST Tournament. It will need a win over the Blue Demons and help to advance.
