Villanova, Pa. - Wind and rain made for a challenging first day of the Wildcat Spring Invitational on Monday. The Villanova Wildcats sit in 11th and 15th after the first round of play at Radnor Valley Country Club.
With all 10 student-athletes competing, Villanova featured two lineups in their annual spring tournament. This is the first season since the 2018-19 season that Villanova was able to host both a fall and spring tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Villanova A lineup, which shot +17 (297), included
Peter Weaver at +2 (72, T-16th),
Matt Davis at +4 (74, T-35th),
Noah Peck at +5 (75, T-44th),
Matthew Copeland at +6 (76, T-52nd) and
Luke Alexander who shot +9 (79, T-71st). Weaver led the group with four birdies after the first 16 holes Monday.
The Villanova B lineup was also in action at Radnor Valley, as the lineup shot +30 (310) on the day.
Vimal Alokam and
Jack O'Hara led the way for this group shooting +7 (77, T-59th), while
Matt Minerva and
Danny Dougherty shot +8 (78, T-66th) and
Jonathan Elkins shot +9 (79, T-71st). On the day, Minerva totaled the second most birdies among all players with five. O'Hara recorded the tournaments only birdie, finishing the seventh hole in three strokes.
Marquette tops the leadboard at +1 (281) while St. John's sits in second at +5 (285). David Hurly of Lehigh tops the player leaderboard after day one, shooting -3 (67).
Play is set to resume at 8 a.m. tomorrow with the all groups beginning from the first hole.
