Hellertown, Pa. - The Villanova golf team had a great showing on day two of the ABARTA Collegiate Classic, finishing in 10th place after shooting 594 (+18) for the tournament.
After shooting +17 (305) on day one and sitting in 12th place, the Wildcats rallied on day two with a score of +1 (289) as a team.
The strong team performance was highlighted by
Peter Weaver and
Matthew Copeland tying for 11th place, shooting 146 after two rounds. Weaver, who sat in 40th place after day one, shot -2 (70), while Copeland improved his first round score by two stokes, shooting even and moving up seven spots on the leaderboard.
Matt Davis carded a 147 (73-74) after a consistent two rounds of action. The senior tied for 16th place at +3.
Matt Minerva tied for 63rd competing as an individual, with rounds of 78 and 75. Rounding out the Villanova lineup were
Vimal Alokam (82-73) +11, and
Jack O'Hara (85-80) +21.
Iona took home both the team and individual titles Monday as they defeated Lafayette in a sudden death playoff hole to take first place at +4 (292-288, 580). Justin Burkhamer's 138 (69-69) put him two strokes ahead of second, at -6, to claim medalist honors.
Villanova will host the Wildcat Spring Invitational for their next tournament, from April 18-19 at Radnor Valley Country Club.
