RALEIGH, N.C.—Junior middle distance runner
Madison Martinez (Gahanna, Ohio) led a group of four Villanova runners who competed in the 800 meters as the Wildcats wrapped up three days of competition in the Raleigh Relays on Saturday afternoon. The event schedule for Villanova on the last day of the meet at Paul H. Derr Track included the 800 meters and the women's long jump.
Martinez posted a time of 2:09.50 in the 800 meters and two other Wildcats each won their respective heats. Freshman
Maya Dorer (New York, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in 2:10.56 to take first place in her heat and come within less than one-tenth of a second of the personal best time she recorded indoors at the BIG EAST Championships exactly a month ago. Junior
Maggie Smith (Halifax, N.S.) was also a heat winner for Villanova and finished with a time of 2:13.55, while freshman
Alex Stasichin (Massapequa, N.Y.) registered a time of 2:15.33.
Senior sprinter and jumper
Trinity Hart (Scotch Plains, N.J.) competed in the long jump and recorded a mark of 5.41 meters earlier on Saturday morning. Her best jump of the day came on the second of her three attempts. She opened the competition with a distance of 5.21 meters and also had a measured jump of 5.16 meters on her final attempt.
During the coming week the Wildcats will be back in action for the Pepsi Florida Relays from Thursday through Saturday, while members of the team will also compete in the Philadelphia Big 5 Meet next Saturday afternoon.
