Hamilton, N.Y. – After the five-month summer break, Villanova Golf returned to action today, competing in the Alex Lagowitz Memorial. With the first 36 holes complete, the team sits tied for seventh out of 15, with a team score of 595 (308+287, +19).
Through the first two rounds, the team sits just four strokes back of fifth place. Despite sitting tied for last at +20 through the first round of the day, the team rebounded swiftly on their second go around. The Wildcats posted a score of 1-under par for round two. Villanova also leads the field with a total of two eagles to this point.
Peter Weaver and
Matthew Copeland paced the Wildcats through day one. Weaver shot 2-over 72 for the day (75+71) and found a groove on round two shooting 1-under. In his first match as a Wildcat, Copeland shot identical rounds (74+74) to post a score of 4-over.
There was a tale of two rounds for
Luke Alexander, who sits at 5-over for the day. In his first round of the fall, he shot 7-over after two double bogeys. However, he showed poise I his second round, scoring three straight birdies on the front nine.
Vimal Alokam and
Matt Minerva both sit at 11-over, after scoring the exact same (82+73) after day one. In his first collegiate action, Alokam improved his score by nine strokes from round one to two.
Matt Davis shot 14-over par (80+78) on the day for Villanova.
Round two of the Alex Lagowitz Memorial will begin at 9:00 AM tomorrow.
