Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova golf team's host event, the Wildcat Fall Invitational concluded late Tuesday, with the team finishing in 5th and 9th place. All 10 student-athletes were able to compete for the Wildcats, spread across two teams for the tournament.
After the first two rounds on day one, the teams sat in 4th and 7th place, scoring +23 and +42 respectively. With some momentum heading into the final round of their home event, Villanova looked to improve on their first day scores at Radnor Valley Country Club.
Peter Weaver paced the 'Cats in the final round, shooting his best round of 1-over (71) and finishing in 13th at +7 (74+72+71).
Matthew Copeland and
Matt Davis had the second best scores for Villanova, after finishing the tournament at +9, good for 16th place. Copeland also had his best round on the final day, shooting even (77+72+70), while Davis found success early, recording four birdies in his first round (73+72+74).
Luke Alexander and
Noah Peck finished tied for 18th (+12). After the first 36 holes, Peck sat tied for 8th at 3-over par (72+71), with eight birdies and an eagle. In his final round, he shot a 79. His 11 birdies was third best out of the 44 student-athletes in the tournament. Alexander found his success on the par 3s, finishing with a score of 2-under on such holes, second best in the tournament. He shot a 78 in his first round of action, but posted scores of 71 and 73 in his final two rounds.
To round out the two Wildcat teams were
Jonathan Elkins who finished 34th (73+83+73, +19),
Vimal Alokam (83+72+79) and
Danny Dougherty (80+74+80) who both shot +24, to tie for 37th,
Jack O'Hara shot +26 (79+78+79) to place 42nd and
Matt Minerva shot +33 (86+75+82) to finish in 44th.
Drexel took home the team win, shooting 6-over par (286+279+281, 846), while Delaware's Roberto Nieves had the best individual score of 6-under par (66+67+71, 204).
Villanova will head to Jonesborough,Tennessee for their next tournament, the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, hosted by ETSU on October 10.
