Troup and Loewen Record Personal Bests at Princeton

Villanova had 10 athletes in competition at Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday afternoon

PRINCETON, N.J.—Sophomore jumper Michael Troup (Doylestown, Pa.) and sophomore thrower Billy Loewen (Sparta, N.J.) recorded personal best marks in their respective events to highlight competition for Villanova at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  Troup tallied a mark of 7.13 meters in the long jump and Loewen threw the shot put for a distance of 14.34 meters.

The distance of 7.13 meters for Troup surpassed his previous personal best of 7.11 meters which he had recorded in high school and beat his previous collegiate best mark of 7.06 meters from last month's Penn Challenge.  Troup came in sixth out of 19 competitors in Saturday's meet.  His new top mark in the event came on his third attempt of the day and moved him into the top nine competitors who advanced to the final and made three additional jumps.

There were implications beyond the meet for Troup, who moved up one spot into second place on the season's BIG EAST performance list.  He also broke into the top 10 on the Wildcats all-time outdoor performance list in the long jump.  Troup's mark of 7.13 meters is the longest jump by a Villanova athlete since the 2016 indoor season, and the longest outdoors since NCAA qualifier Elbert Maxwell recorded a jump of 7.22 meters during the 2015 outdoor campaign.

Loewen also has a new personal best after his mark of 14.34 meters in the shot put.  He narrowly surpassed the mark of 14.32 meters which he established at the Mason Spring Invitational just last week.  Loewen, who recorded the top throw on the last of his six attempts of the day, remains in sixth place on the BIG EAST performance list.

Among the other strong results for Villanova at the meet was sophomore Vincent Sengelmann posting a mark of 13.93 meters in the triple jump.  That distance represents a new outdoor PR for Sengelmann and is the second-longest triple jump of his career.  His lifetime best mark is 14.32 meters from this year's indoor BIG EAST Championships.

Junior thrower Chika Nwachukwu (Lawrence, N.J.) also competed in the shot put and recorded a mark of 13.11 meters.  Classmate Jadyn Anczarski (Ringtown, Pa.) recorded throws of 43.55 meters in the discus and 47.08 meters in the hammer, while senior Jack Judge (Palisades, N.Y.) continued his sensational season in the javelin with a throw of 63.23 meters.

In the running events, senior sprinters Harry Purcell (Dublin, Ireland) and Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) raced in the elite section of the 800 meters.  Purcell came in 13th overall out of 59 runners with a time of 1:52.29, while Lampinen crossed the finish line with a time of 1:55.00.

Fifth-year senior Troy Gallen (Glen Mills, Pa.) recorded a time of 22.14 in the 200 meters and senior Utsav Deshpande (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) ran the 400 meter hurdles in 57.35.
