Kelly and Cunningham Wrap Up Competition at Florida Relays

Pair of field athletes each had successful outings as Villanova closed out three-day meet

GAINESVILLE, Fla.—Sophomore high jumper Jacob Kelly (Longmeadow, Mass.) and freshman triple jumper Malik Cunningham (St. Andrew, Jamaica) wrapped up competition for Villanova at the Pepsi Florida Relays on Saturday afternoon.  Kelly recorded a height of 2.06 meters in the high jump, while Cunningham measured a triple jump of 14.53 meters.

Both athletes tallied the Wildcats best outdoor marks in their respective events in several years.  Kelly tied for third place out of 15 competitors in the high jump, with his height of 2.06 matching the best outdoor mark for a Villanova athlete since 2015.  It was a new outdoor personal best for Kelly, who cleared a height of 2.09 meters during the just-ended indoor season.  Kelly is tied for fourth on the Wildcats all-time performance list with that mark.

Cunningham is the first Villanova triple jump to clear 14 meters outdoors since 2012.  He registered the mark of 14.53 meters on his third and final attempt of the day after fouls on his first two jumps.  Cunningham already ranks third on the Wildcats performance list with his distance of 15.41 meters recorded during the indoor season, while the mark from Saturday's meet in Florida puts him into ninth place on the outdoor performance list.
