CHESTER, Pa.—Villanova pole vaulters
Thomas Conboy (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and
Jim Keys (Herndon, Va.) each competed at the Danny Curran Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Both cleared the bar at a height of 4.60 meters in the local meet at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium.
Conboy finished second and Keys third out of the 15 total competitors. The day got off to a fast start for Conboy, who passed on the first four heights before coming into the competition with the bar at 4.45 meters. He was successful on his first attempt of the day, with he and Keys among five athletes who remained when the bar was raised to 4.60 meters. Conboy cleared that height on his second attempt, then was eliminated on three misses at 4.75 meters which would have tied a personal best.
Keys came into the competition with the bar at 4.30 meters, and he cleared at that height and at 4.45 meters on his third and final try. He then matched Conboy by making it over at 4.60 meters on his second attempt. The two athletes were each All-BIG EAST performers indoors.
