VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Villanova Wildcats (8-8-1 overall, 1-6-1 BIG EAST) travel north to meet the Seton Hall Pirates (3-4-1 overall, 6-8-1 BIG EAST) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The contest will be live streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network, available via YouTube, Twitter and Caffeine.
The match – one of five on the BIG EAST slate for the day – concludes the regular season for both teams. The Pirates are currently in sixth place and hold the final spot in the BIG EAST Tournament with 10 points. But Butler and Marquette each have nine points and could leapfrog the Pirates with a win and a Villanova victory.
The Wildcats will look to build on some positives taken from a quality effort last Saturday against No. 3 Georgetown.
"We played Georgetown as tough as any team in the conference has," noted Villanova head coach. "We liked the effort and battle level from our guys. We've struggled to score goals recently, but we've had quality chances at Butler and against Georgetown. The effort has been there all along.
"This is an opportunity to put some of that behind us against a Seton Hall team that is coming off a big win at Marquette."
Redshirt sophomore Carson Williams continues to be a headliner for the Wildcats. The goalkeeper made nine saves against the Hoyas. A season ago Williams made eight saves to help stake the Wildcats to a 1-0 victory over the Pirates in the regular season finale at the Higgins Soccer Complex. He enters play on Wednesday night with an 0.80 goals against average, seven clean sheets and an .841 save percentage.
Seniors Shane Bradley and Luca Mellor have also been key figures in a defense that has been stingy all season. They have been backed by a six member freshman class that has made strides while seeing extensive action throughout the season.
Villanova is seeking its first road BIG EAST win of the campaign. The Wildcats' two road triumphs came at William & Mary (1-0) and La Salle (2-1).
