Feb. 9, 2018 Junior middle distance runner Nicole Hutchinson (West Vancouver, B.C.) ran the 3000 meters in a personal best time of 9:09.16 at the Iowa State Classic on Friday evening. She competed in the Invitational section of the 3000 meters and tallied a fifth place finish in a field of 18 runners.
Hutchinson lowered her previous top time in the 3000 meters of 9:09.59, which she recorded at the Villanova Invitational last season. That time put her ninth on the Wildcats all-time indoor performance list in the 3K, and she maintains that position following Friday's race at Lied Recreation Center. Pending the results of other meets around the nation this weekend, Hutchinson's mark of 9:09.16 would have ranked eighth on the national performance list and second in the BIG EAST entering Friday's competitions. The current weekend is shaping up to be an active one for teams to try and chase down NCAA qualifying times.
Villanova has two athletes competing in this weekend's meet in Iowa. Junior Kaley Ciluffo (LeClaire, Iowa) will race in the Mile on Saturday afternoon.
