Women's Rowing Finishes Third at San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -

The Villanova women's rowing team competed in the San Diego Crew Classic over the past two days on Mission Bay in San Diego, Calif.

The first day did not go as planned as the varsity eight boat finished last with a time of 7:18.548. The boat consisted of Maggie Cavanaugh as the coxswain, Emily Lenane as the stroke, Eileen Gaffney, Hailey Hurteau, Morgan Mroz, Briggs Mroz, Lizzie Hagerty, Kiera McCloy, and Lucia DeNicola as the bow. They finished behind Stanford, SDSU, Sacramento State, and Southern Methodist.

On the second day, the Wildcats competed in the Petite Final. After racing, they finished third with a 7:01. 4 time, just behind Saint Joseph's by .9 seconds. Southern Medodist came in first, and Saint Mary's and Santa Clara finished behind Villanova.

Head Coach Carissa Adams was proud of the team for their composure all weekend and never giving up.

The Villanova women's rowing team will compete next week April 8 for the Knecht Cup in West Windsor, N.J.
