NEWARK, Del. - Junior midfielder Dan DeMasters (Lititz, Pa.) enjoyed his most productive offensive evening since returning from a knee injury that cost him all of 2005 on Tuesday night, leading Villanova past Delaware 2-0.
DeMasters had a hand in both goals on this overcast night. The first came in the 26th minute when he fired a blast from 20 yards out into the left hand corner of the net that beat Blue Hen goalie Taylor Thames. That 1-0 advantage would hold up the rest of the way as Villanova limited Delaware (2-1-2) to a total of five shots on the night.
Early in the second half DeMasters initiated a goal that gave the Wildcats some breathing room at 52:30. He found freshman Mike Seamon (Rahway, N.J.) with a one touch pass that Seamon deftly tapped to junior Neil McNulty (Hampton, N.J.). McNulty completed the play by knocking the ball into the net and Villanova glided to its fourth win of the season (4-5-1 overall, 0-4-0 Big East).
Villanova owned an 8-5 edge on shots in the contest. Junior Jason Friel (Dublin, Pa.) made three saves in goal for the `Cats to pick up his third shutout of the campaign.
The Wildcats return to Big East action on Saturday afternoon when they host USF at 1:00 p.m.
