EDISON, NJ --- The Seton Hall women's tennis team ended their seven-match losing streak by defeating Villanova, 5-2, for their first Big East victory of the season. The Wildcats fall to 12-5 overall and 3-0 in the Big East. The win takes the Pirates to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Wildcats earned two singles victories on the afternoon. Junior Ashley Young (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame H.S.) defeated Seton Hall's Nicole Cercone by set scores of 6-4 and 6-4 at third singles. Villanova freshman Kelly McAndrew (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) recorded her 11th victory of the season at fifth singles in her win over Danielle Houle, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2).
The lone doubles victory for the 'Cats came at third doubles. The Wildcat pairing of senior Anne Morgan (Wheaton, Ill./Benet Academy) and sophomore Jennifer Zick (Colts Neck, N.J./St. John Vianney) got by the Hall's team of Houle and Beth Dugan, 8-3.
The team returns to action on Wednesday, April 4th when they host the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in another Big East match-up at 3:00 pm.
