Storrs, Conn. --- The Villanova women's tennis team defeated the University of Connecticut this weekend in the final season of the 2000-01 campaign. The Wildcats conclude the season at 15-7 overall and 3-2 in Big East conference play.

In singles play on the afternoon, Villanova captured five of the six matches and all in straight sets. Junior Ashley Young (Easton, Pa./ Notre Dame) defeated the Huskies' Christine Vorvis, 6-3 and 6-0, at the three spot. Young recorded her 20th win of the season with the victory. Freshmen Jessie Rybacki (Salisbury, Md./ Wicomico) and Kelly McAndrew (Barrington, RI/ Barrington) each won their respective matches at fourth and fifth singles. They both finish the season with overall records of 18-7.

Young and Rybacki teamed up at second doubles to take down Connecticut's Vorvis and Katie Olsen, 8-5. At third doubles, Wildcat sophomore Stephane Ariot (Elmont, N.Y./ Elmont Memorial) and senior Anne Morgan (Wheaton, Ill./ Benet Academy) defeated the Huskies' Melanie Polanco and Candace Jones, 8-2.
