'Cats Overcome by Red Storm

April 10, 2001

Villanova, Pa. --- The Villanova men's tennis team dropped a crucial conference match this afternoon to the visiting Red Storm of St. John's. With the 1-6 loss, the Wildcats now stand at 8-8 on the year and 0-3 in Big East play.

St. John's swept Villanova in the singles competition, despite strong efforts from seniors Josh Schofield (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) and Paul Moore (Santa Monica, Calif./Loyola) and junior A.J. Rohde (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South). These Wildcats made their matches battles as they would each go on to take the second set from the Red Storm.

Gaining wins for Villanova in doubles play was the number one duo of Schofield and fellow senior Casey Simmons (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) and the second doubles tandem of Rohde and Moore.

The `Cats resume play this weekend when they travel to the University of Connecticut for a match slated to begin at 12 noon.
