Women's Tennis Puts Out Dragons' Fire

Philadelphia, Pa. --- The Villanova women's tennis team defeated cross-town rival Drexel University this afternoon with a match score of 6-1. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 14-7 overall on the season, and remain at 2-2 in Big East play.

In singles competition the `Cats gave up only 16 games in 13 sets. Sophomore Ashley Young (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame H.S.) fell in the first set of her third singles match to the Dragons' Julie Bonner, 1-6, but came back to blank Bonner, 6-0 and 6-0, to take the match. Wildcats also recording 6-0, 6-0 wins were freshman Jessie Rybacki (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico) and junior Liz Farrell (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) at fourth and sixth singles, respectively.

The senior duo Ellen Suetholz (Covington, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) and Michelle Wells (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) got the third doubles win for `Nova as they defeated Drexel's team of Brandy Tricker and Somara Porter, 8-2.

The team wraps up their regular season this weekend with two Big East match-ups when they travel to Pittsburgh on Thursday, then face Connecticut later in the weekend.
