Villanova, Pa. --- The Villanova women's tennis team dropped a tough match today, Monday, April 9th, to the visiting University of Maryland, Baltimore County by a match score of 3-4. The `Cats now stand at 13-7 on the year, and remain at 2-2 in Big East conference play.

The Wildcats managed to take three of the six singles matches on the afternoon. Villanova were junior Ashley Young (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame H.S.) recorded a win as she defeated the Golden Retrievers' Karri Bielewicz 6-3 and 7-5 at third singles. Freshman Kelly McAndrew (Barrington, RI/Barrinton) improved her individual singles record at the fifth post to 14-6 with her 6-2 and 6-1 win over Carolyn Vamasiri. And junior Liz Farrell (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) was victorious at sixth singles, blanking UMBC's Kate Barg 6-0 and 6-0.

Third doubles team Anne Morgan (Wheaton, Ill./Benet Academy) and Jen Zick (Colts Neck, NJ/St. John Vianney) recorded the lone doubles victory for Villanova on the day. They defeated the Golden Retriever duo of Vamasiri and Nicole Russo by a score of 8-6.

`Nova returns to play tomorrow when they travel to Drexel University for a match slated to begin at 3:00 pm.
