'Nova Sweeps Doubles Matches to Scratch Bearcats, 4-3

Villanova, Pa. --- On Friday, March 23rd, the Villanova women's tennis team defeated the State University of New York at Binghamton by a match score of 4-3. The Wildcats improve to 10-3 on the season with the win.

The 'Cats recorded three singles victories on the afternoon before moving on to sweep all three doubles match-ups. Winning at first singles against SUNY Binghamton's Janine Sadaka was Wildcat junior Julie Darne (Bridel, Luxembourg/Bradenton Academy) with set scores of 6-3 and 7-5. After dropping the first set 2-6, junior Ashley Young (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame) got by the Bearcats' Kari Gabrielsen with scores of 6-0 and 6-3 in the next two sets of her third singles match. And Villanova freshman Kelly McAndrew (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) got her ninth win of the year at fifth singles, as she defeated Heather Binen in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-0.

The team will play again tomorrow as both the men's and women's tennis teams host Georgetown in a Big East match-up beginning at 12 noon.
