College Park, Md. --- The Villanova men's tennis team recorded their first victory of the spring season with a win over host University of Maryland, 4-3, on Sunday, February 25th. The `Cats had just come off a loss Saturday at Navy and now improve to 2-1 on the year.

Senior Josh Schofield (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) was one of three Wildcats who were victorious in singles matches on the afternoon, defeating Maryland's Luan Nguyen, 6-3 and 6-0, at second singles. Villanova junior A.J. Rohde (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) won his match at the three post against Jonathan Neeter, 6-4 and 6-4. In a tie-breaker at sixth singles, senior Casey Simmons (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) defeated the Terrapins' Dan Kenshalo, 6-4, 5-7 and 7-6.

In doubles action, `Nova took two of the three matches. The number two doubles pairing of A.J. Rohde and Paul Moore (Santa Monica, Calif./Loyola) won 8-4 over Maryland's Neeter and Larry Chou. Ryan Devine (Oshkosh, Wisc./Oshkosh West) and Casey Simmons defeated Chris Chiu and Greg Chambers 9-7 at third doubles.

The `Cats will next travel to Honolulu, Hawaii for play over spring break.
