Philadelphia, Pa. --- The Villanova women's tennis team opened the fall 2000 season with a bang. Not only did the Wildcats record their first win of the season, they did so with a 9-0 rout of the LaSalle Explorers.

Leading the team in their attack was junior Julie Darne. Although she gave up four games in the first set, Darne went on to win the first and second sets as she defeated Megan Donahue of LaSalle, 6-4 and 6-0, at first singles. Newcomer Jessie Rybacki captured the first win of her Villanova career against the Explorer's Kate Erickson.

In doubles competition on the afternoon, Rybacki teamed with Stephane Ariot at first doubles only to win the match 9-7.

The women get back into action as they travel to Temple University on Friday, September 15.
