Villanova, Pa. - On October 15-16, the Villanova men's golf team traveled to the Center Valley Country Club for the Lehigh University Stable Invitational. At the end of the two-day invitational the Wildcats finished 12th after shooting a 620. Villanova opened the invitational with a 315. They bettered their score by ten strokes on day two by firing a 305. Princeton University captured the team title with a 596 (303/293).
Leading the way for Villanova was freshman John Keller (Bayside, N.Y./St. Mary's). Keller opened the two-day invitational with a 75 and finished with a 73. His total of 148 placed him tied for 6th overall. His total score and place are the best in his young collegiate career.
Other scores for Villanova included fellow freshman Matt Gugino (Leroy, N.Y./Leroy). Gugino fired an opening round 79, but responded with a 76 to finish at 155 and tied for 37th. Senior Garrett Feduke continued his consistent play by shooting a two-day 158 (79/79). Feduke ended up tied for 48th.
Rounding out the scoring for the Wildcats was senior Chris Ellis (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) and sophomore Joe Ryan (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid). Ellis shot a two-day 159 (82/77) to finish tied for 54th. Ryan seeing his first action of the year ended up tied for 78th after firing a 166 (85/81).
Villanova will play in their last match of the fall on October 28-30. They will travel to Georgetown University.
