Villanova Men' Soccer Falls to Rutgers

Sept. 26, 1999

New Brunswick, N.J. --- The Villanova men?s soccer team traveled to Rutgers University tonight to take on the twenty-fifth-ranked Scarlet Knights in Big East conference soccer action. The powerful home team jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 3-0 victory.

Just 6:35 into the game, Rutgers? Dennis Ludwig opened the night?s scoring with a diving header that got past Villanova goalkeeper Matt Malek, making the score 1-0 in favor of the home team. Only a minute and seven seconds later, Ludwig struck again, this time beating the goalie on the end line. The home squad would add one more goal before the half to take a 3-0 advantage into intermission.

?Nova tried valiantly to come back in the second half, but the defense of the Scarlet Knights stymied every advance that the visitors made. For the game, Villanova was out-shot 17-4 by the nationally-ranked Knights.

The Wildcats, 2-6 on the season and 0-4 in the Big East, play their next game on Sunday, October 3 at home versus Big East foe West Virginia, game time is 1:00 p.m.
