Villanova Golf Ties for 15th at the Princeton Invitational

Princeton, N.J. - At the Springdale Golf Club, the Villanova Wildcats participated in a field of 24 teams for the Princeton Invitational. With the combination of pleasent weather and fierce competition, the tournament was a good way to finish up the 1999 spring season. Georgetown University took top honors with the consistent scores of 295-296-591, while Rutgers University was a somewhat distant second with a two-day total of 597. Villanova tied for 15th place with scores of 315-312-627. Columbia University also scored a 627.

Medalists for the Invitational were Steve Probst from Temple University, who tallied a 70-73-143, and Princeton's Ben McConahey with scores of 69-74-143. Villanova's top finisher was junior Peter Dlugosch (Winnetka, Ill./ New Tier) who's 79-75-154 tied him for 31st place with several other golfers. For the remaining Wildcats, sophomore Chris Ellis (Boulder, Colo./ Fairview) finished 47th (78-78-156), freshman Mike Merles (Winnetka, Ill./ Loyola Academy) took 55th place with an 76-81-157, while sophomore Garrett Feduke (Vestal, N.Y./ Vestal) shot a 160 to tie for 76th. Also for the Wildcats, junior Jeff Shookus (Suffield, Conn./ Suffield Academy) shot an 82-82-166 to finish tied at 103.
