Archer Finishes Third in 400 Hurdles

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Senior Kareem Archer ran a season-best 49.46 to finish third in the 400-meter hurdle finals at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Buffalo, N.Y. Angelo Taylor of Georgia Tech won the event in 48.14, while Oklahoma's Omar Brown was second with a time of 49.38.

An hour after racing in the 400 meter hurdles, Archer returned to the track to compete in the 110-meter hurdles. Posting a time of 13.78 to finish fourth in his heat, Archer advanced to the finals which be held on Saturday, June 6 at 6:10 p.m. This is the first time in Archer's career that he has qualified for the 110-meter hurdle finals.

South Carolina's Terrence Trammell won Archer's heat in a time of 13.56, while Larry Wade of Texas A&M ran 13.53 to record the fastest time of the semi-finals.

Joining Archer on the track for the final day of competition at the 1998 Outdoor Championships on Saturday, June 6, will be Villanova sophomore Carmen Douma who will run in the 1,500 meter finals at 6:50 p.m.
