Villanova Men' Soccer Upended by Philadelphia University

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Villanova men?s soccer team traveled to Philadelphia University to face the Rams in the final game of the 1999 season. The ?Cats opened up a 2-1 lead in the first half, but were unable to hold on as the home team scored two unanswered second-half goals to win the contest 3-2. The loss ends Villanova?s year at 2-15-0 overall and 2-2 in the Philadelphia Soccer Seven.

The Wildcats got off to a quick start, scoring just 4:45 into the contest as sophomore Joe Caruolo (Berwyn, Pa.) tallied an unassisted goal to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The score by Caruolo was the first of his career. Senior forward Dave Francalangia (Berlin, Conn.) made the score 2-0 midway through the first half when he scored off of a rebound, good for his fourth goal of the season. The Rams came back to close the gap at 2-1 when they scored with 21:34 remaining in the first half.

Villanova held a 2-1 lead until the Rams tied the score at 2-2 with just 13:35 remaining in regulation. Six minutes later, Philadelphia netted the game-winner, taking the game by a score of 3-2.
