Jamaica, N.Y. - The Villanova men?s soccer team traveled to Saint John?s University to face the Red Storm in the final Big East Conference game of 1999. The home team opened up an early lead and the Wildcats were defeated 3-0. The loss drops Villanova?s overall season mark to 2-14-0, while its conference record concludes at 0-11-0.
The Red Storm took the early lead when Pablo Budna fired a free kick past Villanova freshman goalkeeper Sean Teesdale at 31:39 of the first half. St. John?s added to its 1-0 margin with another score at 43:46, this one coming off of a header from a cross pass. At halftime, the score remained 2-0 in favor of the home squad.
The second stanza saw Villanova continue to struggle to find scoring opportunities. The Red Storm, who launched 20 shots in the game, padded their lead with a goal at 83:32 of the game. The final score of the contest read 3-0 St. John?s.
Villanova?s next game, and last of the 1999 season, will be on Wednesday, November 3 against Philadelphia Soccer Seven rival Philadelphia University, game time is 2:00 p.m.
