South Bend, Ind. --- The Villanova men?s soccer team traveled to the University of Notre Dame today to take on the Fighting Irish in Big East conference soccer action. The home team jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 5-0 victory. The loss drops the Wildcats record to 2-10-0 overall and 0-8-0 in Big East play.
16:35 into the game, Notre Dame?s Rafael Garcia opened the night?s scoring when he lofted a 20-footer that got past Villanova goalkeeper Matt Malek (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Detroit Jesuit), making the score 1-0 in favor of the home team. Notre Dame would add one more goal before the half to take a 2-0 advantage into intermission.
?Nova had a number of chances to get back into the game in the second half, but the defense of the Irish stymied every advance that the visitors made. For the game, Villanova was totaled 15 shots, but was unable to score. Notre Dame added three second half goals and took the game 5-0.
The Wildcats play their next game on Sunday, October 17 at Pittsburgh to face the Panthers in Big East action, game time is 1:00 p.m.
